Description: |
Your Communicator has the ability to use both industry-standard True Type fonts and the Symbian OS specific gdr bitmap fonts. As a result, using the fonts is very easy, you simply select the font you want it in a dialog.
Installing fonts was however far from easy. Until now, you had to move the font files manually to the appropriate folder. Worse, your Communicator could only use the font after rebooting, for instance by removing and reinserting the battery. Removing a font, that was even harder...
Not anymore.
With Fonts (for the Nokia 9200 Series Communicator) installing and removing a font is as easy as using one. Fonts installs itself in the Control panel on the Extras screen.
With Fonts running, installing a font file is as easy as choosing it and pressing OK. Fonts copies the font file to it's proper place, installs it ready for use and remove the original file (if one wishes). Removing a font is as easy as installing one. Choose it and let Fonts handle everything else.
Details
Fonts (for the Nokia 9200 Series Communicator) installs itself in the Control panel in your Extras screen.
- You can install fonts on the Communicator itself, and on the Memory Card (but see below).
- You can also remove font files, i.e making them unavailable for the applications on your Communicator. The file will not be deleted from your Communicator or Memory Card.
- You can delete font files, i.e removing them and also deleting the files from the Communicator or Memory Card.
- In the Preferences, you can choose whether installed fonts must be removed from their installation folder. True Type fonts are quite big, this feature helps you to save memory.
- If you want to be able to remove the Memory Card and to swap it with other computers, it is probably best not to store fonts on the Memory Card. Font files are likely to be kept open by the Symbian OS. Your Communicator might get confused if it cannot read from a font file that is on a Memory Card you removed from your Communicator. Fonts has an option in its Preferences to protect you from storing font files on the Memory Card.
Notes
- Your Communicator has the ability to use True Type fonts. These fonts are a standard part of Windows PC's and there are plenty of True Type fonts available on the Internet. The CD-ROM that came with your Communicator also has a number of them.
- Font files often contain just one font face. The Bold and Italic attributes of a font are considered to be different font faces. This means that you need to install the Bold, Italic and/or Bold and Italic font files too if you want to see Bold, Italic or Bold and Italic variants of a font.
- Don't install fonts with the same name as the built-in fonts, such as Arial. Your Communicator becomes confused in some cases.
